AFGHANISTAN: An Outpost Original

“Best Documentary” Winner - Chichester Film Festival 2023

When former Royal Marine

returned to Afghanistan, he intended to document how 20 years of NATO occupation had changed the country since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Instead he witnessed the fall of a nation as America cut its losses and deserted its Afghan allies, leaving the Taliban even more powerful than before.

With unprecedented access to the Ahmad Massoud’s National Resistance Front in the mountains of the Panjshir and Mazaar e Sharif, to the arid deserts of Kandahar embedded with the Afghan National Security and Defence Forces as they made their finals stand’s, this is the last film to ever document life in Afghanistan for the return to power of the Taliban in August 2021.

When President Biden announced the US withdrawal, the film is transformed into a pulse-pounding race against time as James documents the final, desperate efforts to mount resistance against the rising tide while he trying to help evacuate his Afghan allies.

Drawing on his military background and personal bonds in Afghanistan, James brings a prescient eye to unfolding events. As his predictions about Taliban rule prove chillingly accurate, one explosive forecast remains unfulfilled – for now.
